In the English version of Karel Čapek’s play R. U. R. (1923), the Robots’ leader Radius proclaims that the power of man has fallen and that a new world, the rule of the Robots, has arisen; a manifesto read earlier in the play says the Robots are more highly developed than man, stronger and more intelligent. Lines spoken by characters document what the play stages, not Čapek’s view. The Czech printing of 1920 (Aventinum) carries the counterpart passage (pp. [80] and 57), as a second check by a model of another family read it on page images; the English wording is not dated from it.
