Date 1955-08-31 · event Records dated 1955 → Scope and limits It held the earliest-located role in the candidate pack; that role is withheld until the leads the concept records are read. Found by the recorded search, not evidence of coinage; the passage names a research problem and lists earlier workers on it (Uttley, Rashevsky, Farley and Clark, Pitts and McCulloch, Minsky, Rochester, Holland), so the name was not new to the field. Minsky's 1954 dissertation title (cited as "Neural Nets and the Brain Model Problem") was not retrieved.

Paraphrase Section 3 is headed "Neuron Nets" and asks how a set of (hypothetical) neurons can be arranged so as to form concepts, noting theoretical and experimental work by Uttley, Rashevsky and his group, Farley and Clark, Pitts and McCulloch, Minsky, Rochester and Holland, and that the problem needs more theoretical work.

A cross-family machine check (31 October 2026, item 57) re-read the record’s sources and found that they support what the record states. Its point that the date is the typescript’s dateline, not a publication date was applied at admission. No human editorial review. Status and meaning Editorial status. Not reviewed by an editor . An exploratory record that no editor has accepted. This status does not say whether a person has read any linked passage. Each evidence record above shows how it was checked.
Relation. A passage of the document uses a name for a family of methods or a term, in the sense the concept’s naming criterion describes or, where labelled, in another sense. The record documents the use; it is not evidence that the name began there, and it implies no influence on or from another text.
Date. Dateline of the proposal’s typescript, read in a facsimile; no record of its distribution or publication on that day was verified.
