# Licensing Summary of which licence covers what. The legal texts are in `LICENSE` (code) and `LICENSE-DATA.txt` (data). This note is not itself a licence, and it is not legal advice. ## Code: MIT The application source code, build scripts, tests and configuration (`src/`, `scripts/`, `tests/`, and the files in the repository root) are licensed under the MIT licence in `LICENSE`. Copyright holder: futurelightcone. Bundled runtime dependencies keep their own licences. They are listed in `THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md`. ## Selekoa's own data and text: CC BY 4.0 Selekoa's own records and the text written for Selekoa are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (, legal code in `LICENSE-DATA.txt`). This covers: - the records in `data/` and the dataset releases in `release/`: claims, qualifications, entity descriptions, source records as compiled, collection definitions and the identifiers; - the text written for Selekoa: reading pages, the About & method page, exported research-starter prose, and the documents in `docs/`. Credit: "Selekoa (futurelightcone)", the dataset release version or access date, and a link to this licence. Cite a record by its ID and release version, as the About & method page describes. ## Excluded: third-party material The CC BY 4.0 licence does not cover, and Selekoa does not license: - **Quoted source passages.** Verbatim passages are kept in the evidence `quote` field. They are third-party text and remain under their owners' rights. - **Quotations inside Selekoa text.** Words inside quotation marks in any Selekoa text field are quoted from the source the record names. The same applies to quotations in exported starters. - **Source documents.** Selekoa links to sources and does not redistribute them. - **Names, marks and logos** of the organisations and people it describes. Bibliographic details (names, titles, dates and URLs that identify a work) are facts that locate a source. Selekoa claims no rights in them beyond its own compilation and the licence above. The dataset format lists the text class of every field (`docs/dataset-format.md`); the manifest of each release repeats it. ## Dataset releases made before the licence Releases are immutable. Releases written before these licence files existed state in their own `README.md` and `manifest.json` that no licence was granted. Those files are unchanged. The records and Selekoa text in such a release are offered under the same CC BY 4.0 terms and the same exclusions as the current data, and where an older release file and this document differ on licensing, this document governs. The downloadable archive of each release includes this note and `LICENSE-DATA.txt`. ## Corrections and takedown A rights owner, or a person named in a record, can ask for a correction or removal. The contact address is published on the About & method page once the site is public.
